Susan Wojcicki hört als YouTube CEO auf: Dieser Mann übernimmt ihre Rolle

Vor knapp 25 Jahren tat sich Susan Wojcicki mit Sergey Brin und Larry Page zusammen, um sie beim Aufbau der damals neuen Suchmaschine Google zu unterstützen. Dafür stellte sie sogar ihre Garage als ersten Büroraum zur Verfügung. Heute, im Jahr 2023, ist Wojcicki seit langer Zeit CEO der größten Videoplattform mit über zwei Milliarden monatlich aktiven Usern: YouTube. Vor ihrer Rolle als YouTube-Chefin agierte sie unter anderem als Senior Vice President of Ads, arbeitete an der Bilder-, Video- und Büchersuche bei Google und war an der Kreation von AdSense beteiligt.

Auf dem offiziellen YouTube Blog hat Susan Wojcicki allerdings kürzlich ihren Rücktritt angekündigt und schreibt:

Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I’m passionate about.

Ihr Nachfolger wird Neal Mohan, der seit 2015 als Chief Product Officer bei YouTube tätig ist. Er soll künftig Senior Vice President und CEO der Plattform werden. Neal Mohan und Susan Wojcicki haben rund 15 Jahre zusammengearbeitet.

With all we’re doing across Shorts, streaming, and subscriptions, together with the promises of AI, YouTube’s most exciting opportunities are ahead, and Neal is the right person to lead us,

so Wojcicki weiter. Sie selbst wird nach Absprache mit Googles und Alphabets CEO Sundar Pichai eine beratende Funktion für den Mutterkonzern einnehmen. Susan Wojcicki bedankt sich in ihrem Blog Post bei ihm, aber auch bei den Google-Gründern Brin und Page:

I also want to thank Larry and Sergey for inviting me on what has truly been the adventure of a lifetime. I always dreamed of working for a company with a mission that could change the world for the better. Thanks to you and your vision, I got the chance to live that dream. It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of it, and I’m excited for what’s next.
