Neuer TikTok CEO: Disneys Streaming-Chef Kevin Mayer übernimmt

Kevin Mayer war bei Disney für die Bereiche Direct-to-Consumer und International im Kontext des Streaming-Angebots zuständig, seit es 2018 an den Start ging. Dabei hat er die Launches von ESPN+ und Disney+ verantwortet sowie die Integration des Streamingdienstes Hulu, heißt es in der Pressemitteilung von Disney. Zuvor hatte Mayer bereits als Chief Strategy Officer für das Unternehmen gearbeitet und war auch maßgeblich an der Übernahme von 21st Century Fox beteiligt.

Zum 1. Juni wird Mayer nun CEO einer der größten und erfolgreichsten Apps dieser Tage, TikTok. Dort wird er der erste CEO für diese App und übernimmt vom bisherigen Präsidenten Alex Zhu die Führung. Bei TikToks chinesischem Mutterunternehmen ByteDance wird er zudem als COO tätig sein und direkt an CEO und Gründer Yiming Zhang berichten. Kevin Mayer soll das globale Wachstum der Plattform TikTok – die bereits über zwei Milliarden Downloads generieren konnte – weiter vorantreiben. Dabei fallen die Themen Sales, Corporate Development, Public Affairs, Sicherheit, Moderation und Rechtliches allesamt in seinen Tätigkeitsbereich.

Mayer selbst kommentiert sein neues Engagement in der Pressemitteilung von ByteDance wie folgt:

Alex Zhu, bisher Präsident von TikTok, wird mit Mayers Start als VP of Product & Strategy bei ByteDance agieren. TikToks nationale und regionale Chef-Strategen werden ihre Rollen beibehalten und künftig Kevin Mayer berichten.
