We are a marketing team embedded within the Institutional Sales & Marketing Group that focuses on data-driven performance and the optimal positioning of our books in online B2B and B2C environments. These include leading eRetailers such as Amazon as well as other commercial business partners, both large and small. Book metadata is at the core of our business. Understanding, extracting, combining and loading correct book metadata in a multichannel, automated marketing environment is the focus of this new position.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage multiple data feeds in our Data Delivery Server (DDS) that provides content for online marketing campaigns
  • Monitor the performance of each data feed and initiate changes to improve effectiveness
  • Write documentation and specifications for the data feeds, both individually and grouped according to characteristics
  • Monitor our product performance on various Internet sites (facebook, Google, etc.) using company admin portals
  • Provide metrics of individual display advertising campaigns, especially in the case of retargeting companies like Criteo
  • Track the development of changing product metadata and edit/adapt the DDS feeds accordingly
  • Administrate B2B online catalogs where Springer is a participating licensee, in particular but not limited to Edelweiss and vlbtix
  • Create simple product lists in Excel on a regular basis using in-house database tools
  • Monitor and recommend adjustments to company-specific taxonomies to reflect changing business requirements for book and journal publications
  • Submit product metadata specifications to the Product Data Management developers for new and changing products

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with practical application to Information Science, Data Administration, Library Science, or a related field
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with data in an online commercial landscape
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills in English and German
  • Experience with SQL, XML, ONIX, and CSV
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Google Data Studio or similar tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite
  • Strong technical knowledge either through formal education or professional experience
  • Strong analytical skills, the ability to use hard data and metrics to back up recommendations and drive revenue
  • A passion for data detail and diving into complex situations and with the ability to recognize patterns and maintain an overview at a higher level
  • Demonstrated success working with analytics, database reporting and their interpretation using a visualization tool
  • Affinity for the book trade and the publishing industry, an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in transitioning from print to digital at all levels of sales & marketing
  • Knowledge of script of programming languages is a plus
